International Women’s Day is March 8th and is an official holiday in a number of countries all over the world. Here at Liberator, we celebrate all women and recognize them all as powerful, sexy and strong. In fact, our products and philosophies praise not just the female form, but also the sex-positive feminine fire that embodies every woman.

This year’s IWD theme is about celebrating those that are “Making it Happen.” So we are tipping our hat to a few of our favorite ladies that are really shifting the paradigm and making great strides with their incredible minds, intellect, spirit, creativity and overall girl power! From every profession and every background, these are women who are redefining perceptions and embodying feminine power.

Erika Lust: Porn Power-Broker

Erika Lust is changing the way we view porn. Her groundbreaking cinematic style and feminist approach to story-telling has resulted in a totally new genre of adult film. Sophisticated, innovative and entirely crowd-sourced, xconfessions.com features hundreds of anonymous posts, of which Erika picks two each month to turn into beautiful, original and edgy explicit short films.

Sunny Megatron: Pleasure Activist

Sunny Megatron is passionate about sex positivism, self exploration, pleasure based sex education, sexual safety, and women’s issues. She believes sexuality isn’t shameful, and that it’s time we stop making it out to be. Her goal is to normalize all types of sexuality and end sexual stigma. Sunny particularly enjoys helping those curious about adding a little spice to their sex lives that aren’t sure where to begin.

handler-toplessChelsea Handler: Comedienne Extraordinaire

Chelsea Handler has been a vocal proponent when it comes to freeing the female nipple. Handler has been embroiled in a months-long feud with Instagram since the photo-sharing network pulled down a topless picture she’d posted of herself riding a horse next to an image of a shirtless Vladimir Putin doing the same thing, with the caption, “Anything a man can do, a woman has the right to do better.” Now here’s a lady that really knows how to stand-up to a crowd.

Amal Alamuddin Clooney: International Crime Fighter

amalAmal Alamuddin got her English law degree at Oxford University, then continued her education at the NYU School of Law. She nabbed the Jack K. Katz Memorial award for her accomplishment in the field of law when her studies were done. She even spent a semester as a clerk for now-Supreme Court justice Sonia Sotomayor! She later was named to the litigation department of Sullivan & Cromwell in New York City, practicing both domestic and international law for three years. Amal currently is a barrister in the U.K.’s Doughty Street Chambers firm, specializing in international, criminal, human rights and extradition laws. Phew!

Misty Copeland: Breaking-the-Mold Dancer

Misty Copeland made history by becoming the third African-American female soloist, in two decades, at the American Ballet. At 32, Copeland is ballet’s first breakthrough star in decades and is featured in a commercial for Under Armour; she’s danced with Prince on tour; written a bestselling autobiography; and is developing a new TV show. She is a deeply expressive artist, with a unique, lush and very personal way of moving, which allows her to convey and elicit emotion. At its very best, her dancing transcends her body, leading us beyond her perfect pirouettes to, well, the wonders of life.

laverneLaverne Cox: Gender Bender Supreme

Laverne Cox is known for her break-out role on the success hit, Orange is the New Black, but it was when she was featured on the cover of Time Magazine that she shot to fame. 2014 was a whirlwind year for Cox when she was named Glamour’s Woman of the Year, and the awards and recognition don’t seem to be winding down anytime soon. She uses her fame and platform to confront inequality. Her breed of advocacy is rooted in human connection and helping to shatter the misconceptions that people may have about the trans community.

FKA Twigs: The Shape Shifter

FKA Twigs sounds like sex and her lyrics resemble a late night, stream-of-consciousness desires that melt into a pool of post-coital flesh. Twigs is uncompromising and transports her audience into a fantasy of everything that was ever projected onto a woman. She’s a warrior goddess that is also the narrator, director and star of her own show.
