Eroticism affects everyone differently. For some, the act of looking at something suggestive can be a supercharged and sensual experience. Like a slow undressing before all the touching begins, most erotic art is created to entice sexual excitement, and then, in some cases, ceases to exist. However, if you think about it, the overall essence of eroticism is not limited to our physical realm. For artists like Sir Render, eroticism is everywhere—from the beauty of the human form, to an unattainable aesthetic, to a transcendent plane, to a otherworldly state.

A former NASA scientist—who actually launched fish into space—Sir Render uses his brilliant imagination and intuition to tap into an entirely separate erotic space of sexual energy. He takes everything into consideration—geometry, contrast, perspective, and arrangement. And though his work is highly suggestive in a physical sense, it seems to possess a mysterious undercurrent—inducing a mild sensation of being casted into subspace.

The odyssey all begins with glimpse at his work. Gradually transcending the physical, we are calmly guided toward an altered state. For those familiar with BDSM, some of you may recognize the feeling of entering the subspace—there is an intrinsic rush that is hard to resist. With his art, Sir Render gives us an all access pass through the erotic portal.

Unlike a majority of college students, Sir Render engaged himself creatively to remain focused. Using art to balance his hardcore science studies, he developed skills for sketching and discovered figure drawing as his ideal medium. It gave him a sense of freedom in being able to express his inner desires. Falling in love with the art of creation, Sir Render—as demonstrated throughout his collection—is a master at synthesizing passion for the arts and sciences into rich and fluid imagery.

With an obvious signature style, the work of Sir Render has an extraordinary impact. Some may look and immediately be seduced by its mellifluous arrangement. Somewhat of a traditionalist, Sir Render uses mixed media to create his art. While the old school approach of touching pencil to paper is his first love, Sir Render has expanded his repertoire by hand-drawing on the new iPad Pro and pressure sensitive stylus. To add edge and depth, he uses photoshop to finalize the details. “It’s amazing how true digital pen and paper as gotten.” states Sir Render.

Shifting through a myriad of shapes, curves and contours, Sir Render bares his passion and soul for others to see. Much of his work is produced while traveling in a deep meditative state. And with eyes closed, he allows the process to unfold. According to Sir Render, “These [pieces] feel like they are coming through me, and I am just a tool to make it happen.”

The Sir Render moniker is a way for the scientist to transform into an “erotic” artist. Identifying as an introvert, the name serves as a cloak and allows him to share inner passion openly without judgement. A name like Sir Render certainly commands attention, but there seems to be more to the equation. In a sense, he is surrendering his quirky persona, so that we can surrender to the experience. This type of symbiotic relationship is both emotionally and intellectually rewarding for Sir Render.

Since “erotic art” is still relatively looked down upon and not considered a serious art form, Sir Render simply chooses to not force the issue. Instead of categorizing his work as erotic, he goes beyond the limits and defines his renderings as passion in art. To calm the fray and discussion of being fetish/erotic artist, Sir Render enjoys the anonymity and displays his work primarily on social media sites such as tumblr. A platform perfectly designed for every genre of emerging “erotic” artist, his work has garnered overwhelming and positive public response. People love his renderings and crave more of it.

There is a good reason for this type of response. His use of light and dark, expertly blended tones, and precisely executed negative space, beckons the viewer to experience more of his subject’s scenario. We are pulled inward by what is being projected outward—getting a glimpse of the subjects state of mind and being. Yes, on a conscious level, one would be compelled to see the obvious connection to physical eroticism. But take a closer look, and you will see it just beyond the surface, embedded within, there are harmonious elements which help transport us through a portal and into the subspace where everything is erotic.
