I read of a man who stood to speak
at the funeral of a friend.
He referred to the dates on the tombstone
from the beginning…to the end.

He noted that first came the date of birth
and spoke the following date with tears,
but he said what mattered most of all
was the dash between those years.

Hugh HefnerHugh Hefner had one hell of a dash, to say the least. The iconic founder and editor-in-chief of Playboy spent it celebrating life, love, art, and sex on his own terms—and sharing it with the rest of the world. Where would we be if it weren’t for Hef? Somewhere a lot less sexy, that’s for sure.

“We enjoy mixing up cocktails and an hors-d’oeuvre or two, putting a little mood music on the phonograph and inviting in a female acquaintance for a quiet discussion on Picasso, Nietzsche, jazz, sex.”

Our Hugh Hefner Tribute

Liberator Bedroom Adventure Gear first appeared in Playboy 15 years ago and was a constant in the publication throughout that time. Liberator ads were featured in a total of 188 issues, and each copy helped elevate our brand into the zeitgeist of sexual freedom and appreciation.

Here are a few of our ads that appeared in the pages of Playboy Magazine.

That’s why we feel particularly sad at the loss of Hugh Hefner, who controlled all creative aspects of Playboy. Whatever your feelings on the magazine, or the countless iterations of the brand throughout its long reign, it paved the way for the world we live in today, and for that, we are proud to be a part of it in some small way and grateful for the boundaries that Hefner pushed.

“The major civilizing force in the world is not religion; it is sex.”
–Hugh Hefner

Hugh HefnerPerfect Timing

Hugh Hefner helped define the sexual fantasies of generations of men. And his timing could not have been more perfect. People during the late 50’s and 60’s were itching for a change in their sexual consciousness and Playboy was the catalyst. Beyond capitalizing on nudity, he also highlighted a number of social issues and artistic endeavors too.

Hugh HefnerEndless Dream

As the saying goes, “all good things must come to end.” And the passing of Hugh Hefner is truly an end of an era. We pay tribute to one of America’s greatest folk heroes and recognize that Hugh Hefner left the legacy of the endless dream for countless men.

“Life is too short to be living somebody else’s dream.”
